Amanda Middleton: Therapy and Consulting

About Me

Understanding how markers of difference affect each person’s unique position in the world is key to my therapeutic approach, and reflects my commitment to social justice.

A central part of the way I work is respect for difference and diversity. Thinking about the social context in which we live means talking through the ways that race, class, disability, sexuality, gender and other markers of difference might bring experiences of prejudice and discrimination into every day life.

Understanding how markers of difference affect each person’s unique position in the world is key to my therapeutic approach, and reflects my commitment to social justice.

My perspective has been developed from years working alongside marginalised people. Initially qualifying as a Psychologist in Australia, I worked for 15 years in the social care and therapy fields, specialising in dual diagnosis (mental health and substance misuse), LGBT communities, homelessness, HIV and sexual health, drug and alcohol use, and domestic violence.

I have has spent my entire working life delivering individual, group and family therapeutic interventions, as well as numerous training courses for practitioners.

I currently provide psychotherapy to families, couples and individuals, tutor in systemic psychotherapy at The Institute of Family Therapy London and deliver training for a range of organisations.
